Myth: Eggs Cause High Cholesterol

I often come across people who avoid eating eggs, reasoning that "eggs are high in cholesterol". I wonder if they really know what they are talking. I doubt, because if they really knew what are in eggs, they would WANT to eat eggs (unless they are vegans - and there's nothing wrong being a vegan).

Recent researches have proven that eggs do not fall under the "bad food group" of foods that cause high cholesterol. In fact, it is reported that eggs may help reduce blood pressure.

A study was done to a group of healthy people with normal blood cholesterol levels. Each were given two eggs a day as part of their normal diet for eight weeks. At the end of the study, the results showed no increase in blood cholesterol level at all.

A chicken egg (most commonly eaten) is one of the few foods that have complete protein, with all the essential amino acids. Learn more about why complete protein is so important. So, when eating an egg, don't separate out the yolk fearing the cholesterol. They have to be eaten whole, in order for the nutrients to work synergistically and completely.

Egg is also one of the few foods that have natural vitamin D. Other important vitamins and minerals include vitamin A, the B vitamins, folic acid, choline, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, and potassium. Choline is an important nutrient for development of the brain, and is important for pregnant and nursing women to ensure healthy brain development of their child. The folic acid content also helps ensure proper fetal development.

In any case, cholesterol becomes a problem only when our body has a higher level of free radicals that we cannot handle. This happens when we take too much dead foods that are nutrient-deficient, and have an unhealthy lifestyle. So, don't go blaming the eggs for your high cholesterol, but check your eating habits and lifestyle instead.

Lightly cook your eggs. Half-boiled egg is best. If you want hard-boiled, be sure that you don't overcook -- when the egg yolk turns "greenish", that's overcooked and it becomes toxic. Avoid fried eggs if you can. But if you must have fried eggs, be sure your eggs are fried in good oil that can take high heat. Good example is grapeseed oil. Read more about oil.

H1N1 - Why does it bother you?

There has been too much publicity and attention (and good tax-payers' money!) given to control the spread of H1N1. Though it is good to create awareness and take certain precaution, sometimes I feel that this virus has been given far too much attention without really educating the people how to build up their immune system for prevention of the dreaded flu.

There are other diseases like malaria and diarrheal and even wrong or over-prescription of drugs killing more people in a day than this H1N1 virus. Only that these other killers were not given as much publicity.

I see in media everyday, even mms from mobile phone service providers, going around teaching people "prevention of contracting H1N1" by wearing masks, washing hands, covering your mouth when sneezing, self-quarantine, etc. etc. Notice what's wrong here? These are all EXTERNAL prevention. Why not teach people how to build up a strong immune system that can resist infection, building from INSIDE OUT!

And by the way, don't wear those silly masks. They don't protect you in any way. Virus are far tinier and they are airborne. If you can breathe, then likelihood is that the virus is also in the air that you breathe. The masks don't help, it only makes you look silly, and making the masks maker rich.

How to build your immune system? Reduce the acidity of your body by consuming less acidic food. An acidic environment encourages bacteria and viruses to breed in our body and diseased cells to spread rapidly. People with a highly acidic body are those who would be very prone to contract viruses, any virus.

What causes our body to be acidic? Our reckless lifestyle, poor eating habits and poor choices of food. These are some of the culprits, avoid: animal and dairy products, processed foods, foods made from flour and sugar, fried foods, drugs (medications). Prolonged stress and insufficient rest also cause havoc to our body chemical balance.

Remedy:

  1. Take fibrous food daily, or psyllum husk occasionally, to eliminate if you're constipated. Constipation is the beginning of many diseases because it pollutes your blood.
  2. Take more plant foods, as fresh and raw as possible. They are more alkaline and provide roughage for a healthy gastro-intestinal system. Enzymes from fresh foods also help with proper digestion of your food, and better absorption of nutrients that your body needs.
  3. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water everyday, distilled water is best. Distilled water acts like "magnet" that draws out the toxins that suffocate your cells. Drinking sufficient water will help your body to flush out the toxins (acidic) from your system.
  4. Drink a glass of fresh green juices everyday. Green juices not only help you build new blood, it is also a blood cleanser, antiseptic (kills bacteria), repair your damaged cells, heal and nourish. Accumulation of dead cells in your body also causes your body environment to be acidic.
  5. Learn about the variety of vitamins and minerals that your body needs on a daily basis. You get them from fresh fruits and vegetables and plant foods (nuts, seeds, grains, etc.) Consider taking supplements if you don't have easy access to fresh foods.
  6. Exercise at least one hour, 3 to 4 times a week (alternate days). Exercise helps blood circulation that carries toxins to be eliminated, and at the same time carries nutrition to nourish your cells throughout your body.
Days before and after you travel, practice all of the above (in fact practice all the above for the rest of your life!). Drink this concoction to superboost your immune system:

Juice a medium-sized lemon with its peel, with a 1-inch ginger skinned. Mix with a glass of 8oz very warm distilled water and add raw honey (not processed honey) to taste. Raw honey is a very important ingredient in this recipe as it is anti-septic. Diabetics use only about 1 teaspoon.

By following the above advice, you will not have to fear any virus. Why let H1N1 bother you? I don't.
